Edinburgh Image Diary 1

Hat: New Look // Earrings: Ortak // Scarf: Country Road // Gilet: Jack Wills // Skirt: Tesco // Bag: New Look

On our first day visiting Edinburgh, I thought the best idea would be to visit the castle first. This way we would be able to get our bearings from The Mound and Castle Rock (a volcanic plug in the city centre) and see the major attraction at the same time. This is me on the battlements looking out over the city. I look so chubby because I have my camera case stuffed in my pocket; which possibly made me look pregnant for half the day... I didn't know what else to do with it as it didn't fit in my bag!

The castle is a nice place to visit if you have never been to the city before as it offers stunning views over the Forth estuary and the entire city. There are lots of things to see and we happily spent 4-5 hours going around with the guide book from reception. We prefer to buy those tourist guide books when we go to a monument because we can read along while wandering around at our own pace. It's much more interesting to know something about where you are and to put the history into context. History has become much more interesting to me as I have got older.

After leaving the castle we walking down the Royal Mile which links the castle with Parliament, Holyrood Palace (the Queen's Scottish residence) and Arthur's Seat. We didn't go in anywhere as it was a bit late in the day and we were pretty tired so we meandered back to our hotel for showers and a nap before we came out for dinner.

I thought it would be relatively easy to find somewhere to eat in the city centre: I couldn't have been more wrong! On a Friday night everything was packed to the gills and booked up until 11pm! We eventually found a table in an American diner restaurant and had some nice pasta dishes with some cocktails. I was a bit disappointed to have to eat in a chain restaurant on our trip to the Scottish capital but we were starving. For the next evening I made sure I booked a table in a charming little Mexican cantina where we had a beautiful meal of enchiladas, spicy bean stew and white sangria. Heaven!

Lunch on the Royal Mile in a little shop called Oink: Pork spit roast with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a roll! Beautiful!

It looks like you had a great time in Edinburgh! I love castles and had a great time touring them when in Germany a few years ago. I love your look, especially the hat and bag! Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos!
